Statuia Independeței

The Independence Monument -on Independence Blvd., in the park in front of the Municipal Clinic

The monument is dedicated to the centenary of the Romania's Independence (1877) and was inaugurated in 1980. The statue, with a height of 11 m., was executed in bronze; the author, Gabriela Manole Adoc was awarded by the Romanian Academy for this monument.

The statue represents a woman with a triumphant attitude, a heroine, or even Romania itself. The woman has in her hands, above the head, a scarf a flag of victory. Between the scarf and the upper part of the heroine's body, is suggested the geographical contour of Romania.

Gheorghe Adoc is the author of the 6 bas-reliefs, mounted on the pedestal of travertine, of 6 m. height. The bas-reliefs present decisive moments during the War for Independence. On the front of the pedestal, with bronze letters, a memorable, concise text, signed by Mihai Eminescu, summarizes the millennial aspiration of the Romanians: "The independence is the sum of our historical life".
