In front of the Copou Garden there is a beautiful mausoleum that still remembers today the sacrifice of the soldiers of the 2nd "Roșiori Regiment" in the First World War.
This expressive group of statues made in bronze by the sculptor Ion C. Dimitriu-Barlad is known as the Charge of Prunaru, the Statue of the Knight in Attack, the Monument of the Cavalry or the Monument of the Heroes of the 2nd Cavalry Division.

A horseman on a galloping horse, bent forward, aiming at the enemy, holds in his left hand the reins of the horse and in his right the spear soaked in full load. The soldier is accompanied by a female character who takes part in the heroic assault and has a laurel wreath in his right hand, personifying victory. At the base of the pedestal there is a bas-relief representing a mortally wounded knight, in the arms of an angel, crowning him with laurels.
Heroism, victory and sacrifice is the message transmitted by this beautiful statuary ensemble made at the initiative and with the financing of the officers of the 2nd Cavalry Division who fought in the war of 1916 -1918.

The pedestal is decorated with bas-reliefs and houses a crypt, which houses an ossuary of knightly heroes. You can enter inside through a bronze door, located behind the base. An electrically lit candle watches over the eternity of the hundreds of knights in whose memory the monument was erected. Every year, on Heroes' Day (at the "Ascension of the Lord"), the monument was honored with flowers and the Guard of Honor because at the end of November 1916, 5,000 Romanian soldiers fought the heroic battle of Prunaru to defend the road to Bucharest and only 134 soldiers survived.

The statue was inaugurated on May 29, 1927 in the presence of Queen Maria, Princess Ileana, as well as Princess Elena with the little Crown Prince Mihai (the future King Mihai I of Romania). King Ferdinand was absent from the inauguration, being seriously ill; otherwise two months later his majesty passed into eternity. The sovereign played a decisive role during the First World War, effectively supporting the work of rebuilding the army and maintaining the morale of the troops. Under his scepter, the Great Union of 1918 was achieved, becoming the first king of all Romanians.
